Starting over. Nests were lost with the removal of the dead tree that had hosted the an egret colony for generations. Now in a new nearby pine tree, three egrets at the start of a new season have staked out high limbs for possible nest platforms. They sit there surrounded by greenery, sporting their vivid green lores like party masks. They stretch their necks and point their heads skyward. They call. One flies in a short circle, returning to its chosen spot. They wait. Will a mating season happen and will there be a new colony here at Bay Farm Island?
