Self care is often thought of to be a privileged concept, but it doesn’t have to be. My definition of self care is “to bring the body into a relaxed state of being where healing on a cellular level occurs.” Wellness can be accessible to most people if we educate people on economically friendly ways to feel good. Here are some low to no cost options to shift your energy and unwind your nervous system.
1. Take a community exercise class. Many studios offer community classes that are free a couple times a week. Even higher end studios like @soulcycle do this occasionally.
2. Get body work from a massage school, often times educational institutions offer discounted services.
3. Check out a book from the library, it’s relaxing, better for the environment and a great place to educate yourself.
4. Give a friend a call, communicating how you feel and talking it out is a great wellness hack to relieve stress.
5. Take 20 minutes to sit in the sun and absorb the rays, be sure to wear SPF if you plan on spending any longer sungazing☀️ 6. Drink lemon water. Lemons are extremely inexpensive and a great way to detox the liver. I start each morning with half a lemon 🍋 in 16 oz of water.
7. Use your cities recreational center. DC has numerous rec centers with gyms and basketball courts to use. I’ve been to a few in DC and was very impressed with the equipment and accessibility.
8. Download an app or use YouTube to listen to a meditation. I occasionally use @headspace and they offer free meditations to start. YouTube is always free. Look up @jasonstephensonmeditation & Dauchsy meditations, those are two of my favorites.
9. Walk or bike instead of taking an @uber Now that the weather is warming up we have no excuse not to use our bodies as transportation.
10. Drink water. Hydrate yourself 💦 If you can afford to buy a filter, I highly recommend it! If not, drink up anyway💧
