We are in the midst of World Doula Week and I am so honored to help support the feeding choices of new families, educating them during pregnancy and witnessing them and affirming them as they adapt when their new babies arrive.

I’m also honored to lead the @bmbfa Black Breastfeeding Caucus (BBC) in mindfulness, community connection and self-reflective practices that foster self-care this coming May 8th in Detroit with @evenflofeeding.

The Black Breastfeeding Caucus’s mission is to mobilize families, communities, and public/private institutions to design strategies, make decisions and implement action steps that result in equitable breastfeeding support for black families.

I am pleased to kickoff the conference by discussing the complexities of black infant mortality. For improved birth outcomes, we must talk about more than data and statistics. We need to amplify the stories, our stories. To prioritize true community healing, we must be sensitive to the real life trauma that families experience with the death of a mother or infant.
