Like many, I’ve been thinking endlessly about Christchurch. It seems wrong not to address the awful, horrific events that occurred in a place so close to my heart. There is little to say that has not already been said - all I can add is my own expression of sorrow and love for the victims, their families, and the people of Christchurch. .
There is a heavy cloud that spreads across the mind when such hideously abhorrent actions take place. The responsive message of acceptance and community cannot be ignored, but it is not enough. We must work together. Support one another. Be better. .
Nothing can change how I feel about Christchurch. I have only, and will only, have treasured memories there. It will always be a place filled with resilience, innovation, creativity, love, passion, beauty. .
I’m reminded of Godley Head, my favourite part of Christchurch, where inscribed steps read these simple words: “Protect - honour
Protect - resist
Protect - strengthen”
