So I see all the time these fitness trainers that have been training for years and years and then have a baby. Postpartum they often appear to recover fairly well, achieving that elusive snap back. They jump on social media and immediately sell a program telling you how you can recover as well as they did. All you need to do is what they did postpartum and in 12 weeks you will achieve your snapback too. .
.
I. CALL. BULLSHIT! .
.
According to research it takes the average healthy woman 2 YEARS to recover from a pregnancy. So imagine then how that time would increase if you were having back to back pregnancies. Now I would consider the average healthy woman a woman who is active prior to pregnancy. For example, the fitness trainer. Most of us are not her. Before my second pregnancy I was not very active at all. I exercised sporadically, was never concerned about my diet and was naturally skinny because that is my body type. It was only because of the diastasis recti postpartum that I changed my lifestyle and made an intention to become more active. My recovery after my second pregnancy was very different to my recovery after my third pregnancy. .
.
Prior to my 3rd pregnancy I had been exercising regularly for 4 YEARS! I had spent 4 years learning about my body and my core and getting a host of certifications to help me train better. I had a 4 year foundation entering this pregnancy and because of that my postnatal recovery has been better. I have achieved things I was never able to achieve 5 years ago. .
.
You can’t cheat time. And you can’t trick your body into a foundation that does not exist. Your postnatal recovery will not be the same as hers. Your body is not generic and generic answers don’t often help. .
.
There is more to postnatal recovery than buying a 12 week program from someone who recovered well. .
