SUNDAY MOVIE REVIEW:
🎠Fantasy #1:🎥
THE SHAPE OF WATER (2017).
.
PREMISE:
“When he looks at me he does not know how I am incomplete” - Sally Hawkins playing as “Elisa Esposito”
.
PLOT:
Elisa Esposito, a mute woman that was abandoned as a child along the side of a river, works in a science facility that gets the visit of an unexpected creature coming from the Amazon.
The mysterious animal will cautĂvate the heart of Elisa and together they will scape to liberty.
.
THOUGHTS:
This movie was really difficult for me to grade, because I can see where Guillermo Del Toro was trying to go with his creative story and production designe, but there are some elements in the story that didn’t make sense to me.
I don’t see a woman falling in love with a monster just because she feels that the creature can see who she is, and if she feels that... she’s an animal. We can’t spect something more from that.
In fact, I still don’t understand why this movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture last year.
Yes, the performances are great and the cinematography is beautiful, and combining it with the music it can give you a sense of magic, but that’s it. The story is not that great.
I would have like to see more background in the story of how they fell in love.
.
FINAL VERDICT:
I give THE SHAPE OF WATER a:
NAMBY-PAMBY.
.
CREDITS:
-Direction: Guillermo Del Toro.
-Screenplay: Guillermo Del Toro, Vanessa Taylor.
-Starring: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer.
-Music: Alexandre Desplat.
-Cinematography: Dan Laustsen.
