Thoughts on Robert Downey Jr.’s performance? Would this be possible to be done in today’s social climate??? 🤔 I haven’t seen Tropic Thunder in some time but the one thing that always sticks out is RDJ’s incredible performance. First of all, RDJ is American. He plays an Australian actor in the movie who transforms to play an African American and later disguises as a Vietnamese farmer. And it’s one hell of a performance. Possibly one of the best in modern cinema. He got nominated for an oscar, but lost to Heath Ledger that year. And it’s also amazing how it didn’t receive a lot of hate in 2008, no backlash, Robert Downey Jr.’s career didn’t sink. It’s crazy to think if Tropic Thunder was to be made today or maybe they probably would’ve shelved it, knowing that it would get a lot of negativity.
