A very cool Thai island native I saw while taking a walk across Koh Tao. I suspect that this is a leafcutter bee (Megachilidae), perhaps even the giant resin bee of SE Asia after comparing my photos to those identified by an insect photographer in Thailand. This bee has under-abdomen hairs for collecting pollen. The technical term for these hairs is called scopae and is a bit different from the corbiculae or "pollen baskets" we often observe on honey bees and bumble bees. Scopae on the underside of the abdomen is a characteristic of many Megachilidae bees.
