“It was clear, I was not Manet’s type/ Picasso — who had a way with women — only used me & Duchamp never even considered me.” Happy Wednesday Steadfast! Today we celebrate Carrie Mae Weems, the first African American to have a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC in 2014. Weems use of photography and text is unparalleled; her mastery extends to her observations and critique of the artist-muse relationship through her powerful use of self portraiture, there really isn’t enough to be said about her!
