Whenever we do something, we must always ask ourselves why we INTEND to perform the action. There are various incentives to just ONE action but the only one that pleases Allah(swt) is the one done solely for his sake. Other times (I find this one more common), we avoid or encourage an action due to consciousness of others. If you feel this way about certain things in your life, you should know that something is not right. For example, if u want to pray and ur surrounded by people who don’t really prioritize their prayer and so you don’t end up praying because you’re embarrassed - this just clearly means you don’t want to pray for the sake of Allah. If you fear Allah, then why would you be conscious of humiliation? Moreover, sometimes you may commit an action of sincerity in which you feel overwhelmingly proud and “good” about. If you’re intention is for Allah only, such feelings wouldn’t exist because you’d be pleased after Allah is pleased and you’re given His reward and that knowledge is unknown to us. Instead, you would find yourself submitting to humbleness. Associating partners with Allah, hypocrisy, and doing anything that displeases Allah are things that will contradict sincerity of Allah in your intentions. It’s crucial that we must remember to do everything we do for the sake of Allah, and by the will of Allah, we will find it easier to overcome obstacles that come in our way.
