After the opening in 1902, the Egyptian Museum had about 50,000 exhibits on display. With more than 150,000 artifacts, it now houses the largest collection of ancient Egyptian art worldwide. The exhibition covers two floors with over 100 halls.

On the ground floor, the objects are arranged chronologically according to the epochs, that is, from the predynastic to the Greco-Roman period as well as finds from Nubian tombs. .
A special area within the exhibition area of the New Kingdom is the so-called Amarna Gallery
