This 2001 @turkeyflat Shiraz was a glorious surprise. Surprising because it was gifted by @grandobsessions from his forgotten ‘cellar’ (aka under his house). ⠀

We definitely did not expect it to be in such pristine condition - still ruby in colour with black cherry aromas. And then layers of lovely nutmeg oak, cocoa powder, leather, and a lovely toasty/meatiness. The finish went for days and then just when you thought it was all over there was (another surprise) a hint of white nectarine on the finish.⠀

I know this is such a cliché wine-wanker comment but I swear it tasted of the Barossa Valley’s earth (and seriously I NEVER say things like that). ⠀
Paired with an epic barbecue, it doesn’t get much better.
