Good Morningđź’‹
-
As this year comes winding down, I have began to feel the annual emotional fatigue. This year hit me in waves and I simply pushed them off; telling myself I’d have time to process it all later. Waves consisting of grief, hurt and frustrations due to:
-
Others claiming my pain inflicted by racial injustice is invalid because they simply do not believe the stats and scientific data proving otherwise. Narrow minded ignorance opposing my demands for respect of my culture. Attacks of bitter negativity and unwarranted inquiries of my “natural blackness” to be on display.
-
I have opened myself up to feel it all. The initial anger I cannot express openly. The frustration that they still do not even deem my knowledge-backed experience equal to their speculative opinion. The hurt that I am still watered down to my physical appeal over my intellect and inner being. The small joy when stumbling upon the few who speak up against this ignorance. And even the disappointment when those same defenders attempt to justify their own remaining biases and disrespect towards me and my community because they do not welcome the un-comfortability it cost to change fully. I feel it all wash over me, one emotion after the other.
-
This is crucial in remaining in control of my actions. I cannot withhold contempt and bitterness towards certain groups and individuals in our society without first honestly processing how I am feeling.
-
And so I urge you to do the same. Detox the emotional rollercoaster you have been on. Accept that not only politics affect you deeply, but also the attitude of those you thought cared and were on the same page. Be honest with how that makes you feel towards them in that moment. And then learn to work through it all. Have a close friend you can talk to after your own internal journey. It makes everything a little easier to work throughđź‘đź’•
-
TLDR: Break open that box of emotions you’d rather not feel. Remove the bitterness, one pain at a time. Pull away from certain people if needed to heal. This is how the hope and positivity you want to feel in 2019 will truly become possible❤️✨
