Once in a while, you’ll find yourself alone on the subway. Finally at peace, just you and your beloved surfboard. Rocking back and forth to the screaming sounds of electric currents. They put you in a strange like trance making it hard to sleep. In this city, being alone in transit is rare. It’s even more rare to see a surfer on their way to the beach. You mainly get questioned from people who’ve lived here forever. They look at you in confusion. It’s funny because usually New Yorkers aren’t early impressed. Eventually, you’ll get immune to what looks out-of-place here, just not a surfer. The commute from Astoria to Rockaway Beach is killer. On average, expect to offer a couple of hours for traveling both ways. Even with no delays, the journey must be planned like a perfect murder. It takes premeditation to beat the crowd when there’s swell in the water. Unless you find a ride, you’ll have to take the subway or ferry. Yes, both will take just as long. When you start to walk up to the beach, paradoxical feelings will set in. As you look off in the distance, the most densely populated metropolitan in the USA stands tall. It’s ironic because you start to remember that most people don’t associate this city with surfing. It’s puzzling when you’re alone at the edge of the Earth standing next to a city of millions. Where’s everyone at? Besides the local seagulls, it’s just you and the Angry Atlantic in a stand off.
