Just 4 years ago, Caroline and Giancarlus (Helena’s parents) moved to Canada from a small southern city in Brazil. Like many in their shoes, they were in search of a better life: “it took 4 years to build a life that would have taken 30 years to create back in Brazil” -Giancarlus. But, as with most big life changes, the couple was faced with significant obstacles, such as leaving their families back home. Though it may not be the family they imagined growing up, they have surrounded themselves with loving and caring people, creating a family of their own, which consists of fellow Brazilian immigrants of the same/nearby regions, coworkers, NICU nurses, and many more. Together, this newly formed family will continue to celebrate birthdays, Christmases, and all of life’s treasurable moments.
