β€’ York Art Gallery, York β€’ Here are two of my favourite pieces in the collection of York Art Gallery. πŸ–Ό The first is of William Peckitt, a leading glass artist in York in the Georgian period. This is a self portrait, and it is dated to between 1770 and 1799. Peckitt was a prodigal artist and he was given the Freedom of the City of York in 1754, aged only 23! πŸ€“ In this painted glass portrait, the flesh appears lifelike due to the careful application of enamels and paints to both the front and the back of the glass. 🎨 The second painting is the EARLIEST work in York Art Gallery’s collection. 😍 It is dated to between 1345 and 1348 and was done by the hand of the successful renaissance artist, Bernardo Daddi. It depicts St Zenobius, the bishop of Florence, who has miracles pertaining to the restoration of the dead to life associated with him. πŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈπŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ The poplar wood framing this piece has been recently restored, as it was damaged by woodworm. The final picture is just of a nice view of the Minster from the city walls, also capturing one of my favourite summer bars in York!
