1999 Rugby World Cup £2 produced by @royalmintuk
The coin was introduced to celebrate the 4th Rugby Union World Cup principally hosted by Wales. The coin shows a rugby ball and posts, designed by Ron Dutton, with an edge inscription reading "RUGBY WORLD CUP 1999". This was the first bi-metallic commemorative £2 coin to go into circulation.
The opening ceremony and final were hosted at the newly built Millennium Stadium (now Principality Stadium) in Cardiff, but other matches were played in England, France, Scotland and Ireland. Australia won this edition of the tournament, beating France in the final 35-12.
