While in Bristol, I was stuck and inspired by Wills Tower, an elegant and impressive Gothic structure designed by Sir George Oatley. Completed in 1925, it’s described as the last great Gothic buildings to be built in England. Fast forward to 2009 when I was working on designs in marble and thinking about the material’s plasticity in drawing legs to the ground, I had Gothic structures and buttresses in mind… check out the slides showing inspiration, concept and production with robot. Guess you could call the ‘Ren’ table a form of Gothic Revival?
