There is always a thin line between being adventurous and risking your life. Distant cries for help made us hit the brakes and rush out. We were at an altitude of 3600 m on the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas moving from Rohtang towards Khoksar. As we looked over the edge, we noticed 2 heavily clad men frantically waving at us. We carefully made our way down the slippery snow laden slopes to the stranded survivors.
The previous evening while manoeuvring the dangerous curves of Rohtang in low light and visibility, the driver had overshot a turn and their Mercedes had slid off the road (zoom into the pic). They were lucky to have controlled the vehicle before it went off the ridge. Realizing that a rescue team was required, we handed over our food stock and headed for help. An hour later, we were relieved to see the tow truck leave with the rescue team from the Khoksar checkpost. Lesson learnt: Always be cautious when taking a road less travelled. .
