If there is one thing Sardinia is NOT short of it’s eccentric characters. Having the great @pastagrannies here last week made me remember that. This is Gianni - one of my best friends here. He’s cooked for Anthony Bourdain (he filmed in Sardinia), he runs three hours at dawn every day, smokes 30 menthol vogues(!) a day, and has his first (of many) beers at 9am. Last week he lit his outdoor wood oven for us and baked about a hundred loaves of his semolina sourdough bread in his finest waistcoat, especially for us. At least a third of the recipes in my book are his brain-children. This man is a living legend and a treasure trove of information.
