Here I am, 8 months pregnant to my beautiful daughter Kallinthe.
I never stopped exercising during my pregnancy and, trusting my instinct and ignoring the advice of the so-called experts, 26 years ago I had a lovely water birth.
I went through a very difficult process to prepare because I could not find a doctor who was willing to assist me in my decision to give birth in water.
The experts kept inventing one obstacle after another: I was too… everything:
They told me that I was too skinny to produce milk and that my pelvic area was too small for a natural birth; they all recommended that I have a caesarian.
Ignoring this advice, I moved and squatted and didn’t stay lying down in bed because I knew that gravity would help me
I gave birth in the water faster than they could breathe! Without any medication or painkillers, and without any cutting,
Then, they terrified me again by telling that I will never produce milk because I was a vegetarian; they told me that my baby would die unless I fed her with formula milk.
Again, I said no to everyone and everything and yes to my own maternal instinct.
Why was I so confident ?
First of all because of my education: I did my own research and took every natural birth class that was available near me.
I ate the right food supplements, and did the appropriate pelvic floor exercises and massage.
Most of all, however, I trusted myself.
My gut feeling kept reassuring me that I was right.
As indeed I was!
I had the most beautiful experience in my life.
I experienced this magical mystery of giving birth to a new life fully awake and alert and totally aware of every moment.
And I had a similar wonderful experience 3 years later with my daughter Ilia
This was an important lesson for me, one that I follow ever since in everything in my life.
I won’t believe any “expert” and I won’t buy anything they recommend until I do my own research and only if my gut tells me that it makes sense.
This is what I share and teach the world now.
Oh, and by the way, I almost forgot to tell you:
I breast fed both of my beautiful daughters for 3 years!#waterbirth #naturalbirth #breastfeeding
