Believe it or not, it still amazes me when someone calls me an “artist” even though I’ve been running an art business for a year and a half now. Drawing and visual art were just never things I identified with or felt like I was good at! I always felt scared of messing up. Lately I’ve had to admit and get used to the fact that I am objectively an artist now, but I still find that my favorite drawings always pop out when I’m not trying too hard or expecting something to be a final product. Like these mushrooms I doodled on a bench waiting for the library to open! Does anyone else feel this way? And how do you harness that absent-minded doodling feeling when you really do need to make something more specific?
