#IAmANurse - I often think about nursing solely as my job, but this year for #NursesWeek, I do want to spend a little time to voice my gratitude for my chosen profession. I remember saying in my grad school pathophysiology class that I just wanted to go in this field to pay the bills, but hindsight being 20/20, nursing has given me a whole lot more than that....
•
Nursing allowed my mother to save face and maintain our family’s dignity (and home) when my dad lost his job when I was in high school. •
Nursing has taught me to value the ability to be compassionate just as much as technical skill or intellectual prowess. •
Nursing gave me a deeper appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices accomplished by ALL THE NURSES IN MY LIFE (my mother, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law, friends, and countless Filipino relatives that I didn’t realize I would have before I got married) for the different patients we are privileged to care for. •
Nursing has allowed me to provide a stable future for my family, and permitted me to continue to serve my church and my community without concern about my own financial wellbeing. •
I am guilty of often seeing my job as simply a means to an end, but I never would have imagined how much full my life would be doing this type of work. At the end of the day, the Lord knew it would be the right path for me and for that I am grateful. cheers 🥂 //

P.S. - I was right outside @bluebottle’s Webster cafe sipping on a ☕️ when I got my acceptance into nursing school in 2011, hence the product placement. But the cup is cool too. ☺️
