2,500 years ago, Prince Siddharta Gautama discovered the source of suffering, and at that moment he became the Buddha, the enlightened one who knew how to forge a path out of suffering into bliss. The Buddha heads at the Bayon temple may well show that exact moment... the Buddha smile, taken to mean that he is in this world, but not of this world. Other Buddha images show him in uproarious laughter when he understood why, really, people suffer...that is the way Zen looks at it, that things were so hilariously different from what as a Prince he was made to believe that the Buddha could not stop himself from laughing long and loud when he realized...
