I’m fortunate to have almost 1:1 iPads for my classroom. Today, I introduced the students to an app called book creator. If you have iPads in your classroom, I’d highly recommend it!

Visual Card Aids: Need to prompt or give directions without saying a word? These visual cards I attached to my lanyard are amazing! I also gave them to my staff to use. So in case I’m teaching whole group, they can support the student without saying a word! How do you use visual aids in your class?

This is the first year that I have a bulletin board outside of my office! .

I wanted it to be a functional space for staff to model and for students to communicate. I added some visual supports for directions because our school is so big! .

I also added a folder with extra core boards that can easily be borrowed if a teacher, student, or staff member forgets his or her visual supports or AAC system! I found some great AAC pamphlets to post for more information. I hung one of my lanyards with spare core words attached. .

Hand signal activity to improve letter sizing and alignment awareness :) Using our word list from "Classroom I Spy," we played this hand signal game that I made up. 👍 for the tall letters, 👊 for the short letters, and 👎 for the descending letters.

When transitioning from preferred tasks to unpreferred tasks, I used to get so frustrated and stressed when behaviors would happen. But honestly if someone turned off my Stranger Things or Taylor swift and I couldn’t communicate my words or understand why they did that, I might exhibit said behaviors too!

Try presenting a choice board. Sometimes kids just need to be visually reminded of what they’re working for. OR they need to be re motivated. Or understand the order of events that need to happen before they can have their breaks or reinforcers back.

When I first started teaching mod/severe sped I my biggest question was what do I actually teach and how should I actually do it?? Then I learned about discrete trial and it answered AT LEAST half of my questions! It’s revolutionized my room and made me feel SO CONFIDENT as a teacher because I have an easy way, every day, to provide evidence based instruction to alllllll of my students. I’m working on a discrete trial highlight so comment all your questions and I’ll try and answer them in an IG story (or maybe my first live?).
But for right now I’ve got a super simple and easy to use DTT protocol and data sheet in my TPT store. This is perfect because it allows you to write, in a clear format, each day the target skills of the day and the different criteria. This helps keep me ON TRACK with my discrete trials and makes sure that no matter who is running the trials day to day all critical info is communicated! Link in bio to grab it from my TPT store!! .
