I feel it when I look at you
and you look away
with shame or guilt
or whatever horrible thing
you must feel
and it’s on this night
which you have left me with my thoughts
that i have come to terms with this fact
one that I have foreseen for some time
glimpses of it
revealed as goosebumps on my souls
[if there is such a thing]
and it has crept in and out
from within the pink mud of my brain
like some parasite
intent I’m not only surviving
but claiming my mind
as its home
and it’s now
that I see it simply as it is
that the only thing we share
is our love for each other
which we demonstrate
so differently
so I’ll be the brave one
the enemy and the guilty
the one you can
with no effort at all
place the blame on
and say
he was the one
with the problem
not me
and i am sure
those are the words your
unfortunate lovers will hear
because your vanity and you
will forever be afraid
of what they will
