Tomorrow the lovely ladies will be back sharing their stories for #ovariancancerawareness month - I can’t thank them enough for sharing 💙but tonight, I’m going to share the why behind this little bracelet - Olivia made it for me shortly after I’d let the children know I was sick, and what the meant exactly... .

My little girl ( and Jaxson) have two if the biggest hearts I know...although they were both scared in the beginning and from time to time the word “hospital” or seeing my elbow wrapped (which usually means I’ve been to the hospital) still wigs them out a bit, but we’re all adjusting as time gets further out as to what our “normal” is. She made this for me so people would know...know I was sick, knew what was making me sick and probably on hopes that people would know why I didn’t have any hair - her biggest fear was that I’d be made fun of. .

Fast forward 2.5 years and when I asked her how she wanted to raise funds for this year’s @pedalthecause , bracelets was the way...and she killed it (first round of orders are completed, just need to get to the post office). That being said, we’ve decided together we’re going to send one to everyone who donates to my ride (splitting it up with her) between now and next Sunday, ride day, AND...we’ll even customize it for you for the specific type of cancer or cause you want to create awareness for. .

You see, a #worldwithoutcancer isn’t limited to #ovariancancer or #gynecologicalcancer , it’s for all of us who’ve either been effected or had a loved one effected by cancer. It’s each of our ways to create awareness for what’s important to us - so people comment on it and we can share the story behind it. .

Link to donate is in my profile and for every donation of $10 or more we’ll send you an ovca bracelet and make you an additional one if you’ve been effected by something you’d like to draw awareness to. I’ve made several for friends who’ve been impacted by #breastcancer .

Thank you in advance from not only me, but all of my family and friends who’ve heard the words “you have cancer”...our hope is for a cure, so no one has to hear those words and fear them... #ovariancancersurvivorFriends together for a great cause! @rocknrunmiami #pink #tealandwhite #breastcancerawareness #ovariancancerawareness #fightlikeagirl #miamicancerinstitute #rocknrun #tutugirls #teammonzo #stretchzoneForsyth park is where lately I have been starting my days prepping for #towaterfront42k. Part 2
When the 2 month mark hit, I had finally gotten my period. The next day, Saturday I had a big lunch. That evening I went out for dinner. I was just barely getting hungry again. I ate a single taco and a few chips, it had made me uncomfortably full. After that, I’m was in so much pain. It also felt like I had a basketball in my stomach. A small meal shouldn’t have caused so much discomfort.
The next morning, the pain was almost unbearable, but made it through the day with some pain pills.
Again, I knew something was wrong but it was Sunday and there wasn’t a lot I could do.
That Monday morning I woke up not only to excruciating pain but but I was so bloated I looked like I was 4 or 5 months pregnant, over night. Significantly more than normal bloating.
I called my doctors office but they couldn’t get me in for 2 weeks and I couldn’t wait that long, so they suggested the emergency room. I went and the doctor there told me that something was wrong and I couldn’t wait 2 weeks to see my doctor. He had actually told me that it was fibroids. Looking back I realized he knew what was actually wrong but couldn’t say anything.
Magically my OBGYN’s office called the next morning and told me they had an opening that Friday.
You have to understand that I had this particular doctor for 10 years. He was assigned to me at the hospital when my Ovary had twisted at age 22. He knew that I practiced abstinence outside of marriage and that Brett had passed away. He had previously performed laparoscopic surgery and that surgery resulted in my Endometriosis diagnosis. He knew me very well and was a great doctor.
All of this was another contributing factor that saved my life.
I came into my appointment and he first asked if I had been sexually actively since my last appointment. I told him that I wasn’t.
He asked me again, and I thoroughly reassured him that I hadn’t even kissed a guy since then.
After that he just glared at the floor in confusion. In those 10 years and all that chaos, I had never seen that look on his face.
He then told me that my pregnancy tests were positive.
It wasn’t possible for me to be pregnant.🦋💙 To most people, your Mom is the most important person in your life. She loves you from the minute you arrive and is with you through many firsts (first smile, first word, first step, first kiss, first date...) She’s the person you look up to, you can confide in and and go to for advice no matter what the issue. And when she’s no longer physically there, you still talk to her and seek her guidance hoping she’s listening and watching from above.
My Mom was an amazing woman who so full of life, so smart, so kind and exceptionally compassionate.
It was four years after her death that I met my husband. He always listens intently to the stories I share about her. He looks at pictures and remarks how much I look like her! He replicates her recipes and makes them hoping I realize that she’s now talking to him and guiding his hand. He continually looks for ways to show me that he understands how much her loss has impacted me.
He wears his teal ribbon 🦋💙 throughout the month of September so people will ask and he can share about my Mom and ovarian cancer awareness. He looks for special pieces that have teal in them (a pretty necklace, a piece of pottery or a scarf to name a few) and brings them home to put a smile on my face.
He too is now a teal warrior! 🦋💙. And when he wanted a new army ranger hat, he had teal embroidery 🧵 put on it to show his love for her and for me.
I believe that we are surrounded by angels 👼 throughout our life. They may not always be there for all of the firsts but they are truly there for you when you need them most! 💙🦋💙🦋💙 #30daysofteal #rangersleadtheway
