![A woman won a lawsuit this week where she used a “wrongful birth” legal theory—mainly, had she known her child had Down Syndrome, she would have had an abortion, and the doctor failed his/her duty to inform her of the testing indicating Down Syndrome. While this case was not in the US, it was really close to home in the sense that historically and socially our views here are troublingly similar.

My video isn’t a debate on abortion or politics, but on how far too recently we have institutionalized and isolated individuals with Down Syndrome and how medical professionals are still giving misguided, uneducated, discriminatory, and biased “advice” to parents expecting a child with Down Syndrome. And it sends a dangerous message to the many individuals living their lives with Down Syndrome today.
