Aurelia’s birth story:

Let me preface by saying that I chose to approach Zach’s birth very differently, but that doesn’t mean Aurelia’s was bad by any means. Aurelia’s birth is what I would call a standard birth.

Aurelia was due on a Saturday. On Friday (incidentally my birthday) I went for my 40 week midwife visit. My last day of work had been the previous day and I wanted her here ASAP. So when the midwife asked if I wanted my membranes stripped, I was all for it. I’d been told that this could jump start labor, but nobody- not the midwifes, or the nurses, or even the app on my phone that told me what fruit my unborn child compared to in size- told me that it could just start painful contractions without progression if my body wasn’t ready for it.

On Saturday I started having contractions. By Sunday I was in a lot of pain. I have a high pain tolerance (I even managed to visit my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s house, plus my parent’s house that day) but I was feeling the contractions mainly in my back and they hurt bad. We decided to head to the hospital late that night because, even though my contractions were only coming about 6-7 minutes apart, they had been coming that often most the day and with increasing severity to the point where I wasn’t sure how much longer I could handle it.

Unfortunately I was only dilated to a 3. After trying to walk and work with my contractions for an hour without success, they sent me home. My psyche was destroyed. How could I make it all the way to 10 cm dilation if 3 cm hurt so bad? I now know from discussions with my midwife that my contractions were so hard without progression as an unfortunate side effect of having my membranes stripped, but I had no idea then that this was a possibility.

I was determined not to go back to the hospital until I was dilated to a 5 or 6. The hospital gave me some pain killers so I could sleep, which also slowed my contractions. The next day (or I should say later that day because it was past midnight when we came back home) they started in earnest again, but I wasn’t going back until I could for sure stay.

Super easy but very time consuming. Took about 10 min to prep but 5 hours total to be done and only 1 of my 3 kids ate it (the others fell asleep before it was done) but it was worth it because left overs it is tomorrow!

-2 lbs of chicken breast
-2 cups of chicken broth
-1 can of 21oz of cream of chicken broth
-1/4 tsp of ground oregano
