This week we are extremely excited to spotlight the awesome work of our friend @sofia_jaramillo5!
Sofia Jaramillo is an outdoor adventure photographer and photojournalist based out of Jackson, Wyoming. As a young girl, Sofia took a strong liking to skiing but was disappointed by the a lack of diversity in the outdoor sport. “You know,” she says, “the people I looked up to in the ski world were seemingly perfect white-blond women that looked nothing like me but [were] all I wanted to be as a young girl.”
A Colombian-American herself, Sofia has made it her mission to fight racism in outdoor spaces by uplifting BIPOC and underrepresented athletes through photography, film, and the power of storytelling. “Seeing Latinx youth express themselves and find joy on the ski hill has been one of the biggest highlights for me living in Jackson,” she says.
She has spent a majority of her time working on projects about Hispanic migrant workers, and is keen on including all voices in her work. Her work has been featured in @natgeo, @nytimes, and @wsj. Great job, Sofia! ⛷️📸
