It’s been 11 long days since we last saw him. Fighting these blasted fires since late November.

This clip says it all.

Follow: IG-@HealthyTeachingEvery single day, our habitual actions pile up in the damage that they do to our environment and Earth. Before it is too late, think of the impact that you want to have on the people around you as well as the generations to come.Deforestation has always been part of human history. That’s because wood is a precious and versatile natural substance. In the story of Gilgamesh, the king defeats a monster as part of his hunt for sacred trees in the Cedar Forest, which he cuts down and brings back to his home in Uruk, received as a hero.
Mesopotamians, Phoenicians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Ottomans all created their empires from the use of wood (for homes, heat, light, mighty ships, melting metal), and all experienced the consequences of a loss of forests on their agriculture as soil became less fertile, waterways were damaged, crops became vulnerable or failed, and armies became weaker.
Again and again deforestation led to the rise and ruin of civilizations. This has also changed the planet’s terrestrial landscapes to this day. @oxygenseven
Just as well, people have been planting trees as long as they’ve been cutting them down! Indigenous people of North America planted hickory, chestnut, beech, and oak - all nut-bearing trees. Amazonians planted fruit trees. And tree planting is even referenced in the Bible.
In this context, we learn that both deforestation and reforestation are part of our history. What’s different now is that far fewer forests are left, there are more people using resources and creating waste than ever before, and climate change is accelerating and multiplying environmental degradation.
Now we can recognize that balance needs to be restored. We can continue to use wood as a resource, but we must acknowledge that reforestation is needed at a bigger scale to replenish what has been lost and more than make up for it for biodiversity and long-term sustainability🌲

Enroute from Athirappilly to Valparai.

By Linn Smith
With climate change and the warming of our planet comes forest fires as evidenced by the recent fires in Australia. The wildfire season has gotten considerably longer and drought has fueled the fires. Rising temperatures evaporate more moisture from the ground and vegetation turns dry with lack of moisture. These events lead to a longer wildfire season. Acres and acres of forest and prairie act as tinder for any mistake by nature or man. Deforestation has many devastating results including erosion and furthering the effects of global warming by destroying a forest’s contribution to clean air, turning carbon dioxide into oxygen.
In the past reforestation depended on humans carrying seedlings, planting each nursery grown seedling by hand as they walked across the deforested areas. If reforestation does not take place in these areas, erosion washes away the top soil and unwanted invasive plants and ground cover may eventually take the place of native trees..for more see planetearth5.com
