‘Fungi’ which means mushroom in Italian, takes its inspiration from the shape of mushrooms and gills found on their undersides, and hence its name. Traditionally, we think of patterns as something that just keeps repeating throughout the space in an identical way. But many patterns that we see in nature aren’t quite like that. If you closely observe, you will notice that the elements of any pattern are similar in nature but there exists some randomness in them. We have tried to replicate the non-uniformity in the gills on the exposed surface of the lamp, which standout even more when the lamp is lit.

One thinks of roots as hidden underground, spanning subterranean depths. Then there are roots that need no soil but absorb their nutrition from the air like these phalaenopsis orchid roots on the beautiful goddess @isabellevanzeijl.

I love this image for she is wearing her roots as proudly as Rapunzel, as fiercely as Medusa. Her origins are not hidden—they are in full view growing stronger with time as her spirit does.

How can we wear our roots also as proudly and water them with the mist of our healing? How can we encourage one another to embrace those serpentine strands that make us who we are?

That is what we are here to do—to be each other’s gardeners and healers both.

Tropical trees for a Tuesday morning!

From the extremities of their roots to the tips of their treetops, trees are the perfect carbon sink!

Whilst not all are as decorative as Madagascar’s native Traveller’s tree 🌴 or as huge as Californian Coastal Redwood’s 🌳 all 60,065 species do have one thing in common: their capacity to capture carbon and reduce CO2 emissions. Acting - literally - as the lungs of our planet 🌏, it is vital we support reforestation initiatives whenever possible.

And whilst we may not all have space to grow trees in our living rooms, we can make a difference. How so?

são mais de 1500 espécies, com uma diversidade enorme de formatos e tamanhos, e milhares de anos de evolução, aprendizado e inovação para resultar em formas com funções que respondem ao contexto em que ele vive.

os cactos são plantas suculentas, carnudas, adaptadas para armazenar água e sobreviver em regiões de muita seca.

uma das transformações que sua evolução trouxe são seus espinhos. que são folhas, altamente modificadas, que foram reduzindo de tamanho e diminuindo sua superfície de contato para evitar a perda de água. e eles ainda são uma proteção contra predadores.

outra resposta maravilhosa ao contexto em que vivem são as costelas de resfriamento. como eles estão expostos a muito sol essas suas estruturas verticais trazem planos alternados de luz e sombra que além de reduzir a sua superfície a exposição do sol, também produzem correntes de ar melhorando assim a radiação do calor.

não é a toa que nossa maior referência em design, é a natureza ❤️
